December 4, 2023: the first trailer
Rockstar published the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer on December 4, 2023. The video introduced the game’s return to Vice City and presented its setting through a stylized sequence of people, places and social-media-like images. The official source matters because it establishes the title, publisher and release window that were current at the time. Older announcements should remain dated instead of being mistaken for the current schedule.
A trailer is a piece of marketing, not a full story timeline. The first video established the public names and tone that later materials expanded, but its cut cannot prove mission order. Our video breakdown labels visual observations and keeps theories separate from confirmed copy.
May 6, 2025: Trailer 2 adds character material
Rockstar released Trailer 2 on May 6, 2025, alongside expanded official character and region material. The official Newswire post and media archive are the records for the publication date and video. Rockstar’s product page now organizes the video among the game’s media assets. This timeline treats publisher pages as the source rather than repost dates or reaction videos.
The new material gave readers more to compare, but more footage does not automatically settle every question. A visible location can be named by Rockstar while its in-game function remains unknown. A character detail on an official profile can be confirmed while a fan explanation for that detail remains a theory. Our story dossiers link directly to public profiles.
November 6, 2025: the current release date
Rockstar’s Newswire set the current Grand Theft Auto VI release date as November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The date remains subject to future official updates; a dated announcement is not a promise that a game can never be delayed. The current product and support pages are the right places to check if the schedule changes.
This date is relevant to guides because it divides pre-release planning from tested gameplay. Before a game can be played, an article can summarize the official platform, edition and media facts. It cannot truthfully present a full completion route as tested. The walkthrough desk labels planning pages and will add routes after they can be reproduced.
August 27, 2026: An Extended Look
Rockstar published Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 27, 2026. The official page describes it as captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That is stronger evidence about the presentation of this particular video than a visual guess from a cinematic trailer. The statement should not be generalized to every promotional film or taken as a performance specification.
The extended look offers a longer view of the world and interface, but it remains a curated presentation. A scene can show an interaction without explaining every condition required to trigger it. Our video hub includes a scrubber so readers can revisit the same points and a written analysis that distinguishes visible details from assumptions.
October 15, 2026: the Launch Trailer
Rockstar’s Launch Trailer page gives the date October 15, 2026. Its Newswire article identifies “Flower in a Hurricane,” by Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The official game page continues to present November 19, 2026 as the scheduled release date. Those are the relevant public statements for this entry.
The launch video contributes another promotional reading of Jason, Lucia and Leonida. It does not establish a chronological sequence, reveal every playable system or replace the need to inspect the released game. Our launch-trailer notes link to Rockstar’s source and separate the song credit from in-game radio claims.
November 2026: platform and pre-load details
Rockstar Support lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Standard and Ultimate editions, a physical Standard package containing a download code rather than a disc, and region rules for redemption. It also describes a 170-day expiration rule for Japanese codes. The same support page currently contains more than one pre-load schedule statement, while a Newswire post announces November 10. Readers should check their platform store and the latest official notice.
A timeline should preserve such discrepancies rather than smooth them away. We link the support article and the newer Newswire item so a buyer can see both statements. The news hub collects dated updates, and the hint checker summarizes the current account-region advice. If Rockstar clarifies the schedule, this section will receive a dated correction.
How to use this timeline
Each entry is a dated event in the public record, not a chapter in the game’s story. The “current” label refers to the latest official release date we have checked for this page. An old trailer date remains historically correct even if a future announcement changes the schedule. That structure avoids a common problem in search: a page that quietly overwrites history and leaves no clue why an older result looks different.
Readers can use the region atlas, mission directory and hints hub to move from announcements into practical reference pages. The latter will remain marked as pre-release where game mechanics cannot yet be tested. We will add new entries only when an official source provides a date and a claim worth recording.
Why the dates need to stay attached to their sources
A release timeline is most useful when it preserves the state of the announcement at the time it was made. The December 2023 trailer, May 2025 second trailer, November 2025 date change, August 2026 extended look and later launch marketing are separate events. Readers arriving from an older search result need to know which date is current and which one is historical. A headline that says only “release date” can become misleading after an announcement changes, so this page names the source and date beside every update.
The timeline also distinguishes different kinds of official information. A trailer publication establishes when Rockstar shared a video. A Newswire post can announce a change or marketing milestone. Customer Support can describe editions and redemption restrictions. These records answer different questions and can disagree on operational details, as the pre-load timing currently illustrates. We link both the support article and the Newswire notice instead of silently choosing whichever wording seems more convenient. When a source is updated, the page should record the new check date and note the change.
How to verify a new timeline entry
Before adding an event, confirm the date on a Rockstar page and save the direct URL. Check whether the displayed date refers to the announcement, the media upload or an event the announcement describes. These can differ: a post published today may discuss a future release, while a video may be reposted later by another channel. The page should not count reaction coverage or a fan upload as a new publisher event. If an official platform store adds local availability information, label it as a store listing for that territory rather than a worldwide announcement.
A timeline entry should then answer what changed and why a reader might care. Avoid adding every social post merely to create freshness. High-value entries include a release-date revision, supported-platform announcement, edition clarification, pre-load schedule or official media release. Link the news hub for ongoing updates and the video hub for source footage. The story dossier covers narrative context, while a timeline remains a compact chronology of the public record.
Read the character without predicting the ending
- Keep the published biography separate from an interpretation of a scene.
- Do not assign dates to a character’s past when the source supplies none.
- Compare Lucia’s dossier with Jason’s dossier before drawing conclusions about their shared plan.
Field note: A background detail can explain a motivation without proving a special ability. Record the source of each claim before adding it to a character timeline.
Questions & answers
Is a public biography a complete backstory?
No. The dossier preserves the published outline and leaves unannounced dates, missions, and outcomes open.
Does a biography confirm an exclusive tactical skill?
No. A playable ability needs its own gameplay evidence, including its input, effect, and limitations.
What is the spoiler scope?
The dossier discusses public source material and identifies interpretation. It does not present an invented ending as a reveal.
